Ancient Egypt Research Report
Ms. Maher's 6th Grade Social Studies Class
Ancient Egypt Research Report
You will be doing a report on ancient Egypt. We will go to the school library to do our research and to take notes from books, online databases, and websites. As your Social Studies teacher, I will work with our Teacher Librarian to help you learn the steps of research and how to write a research report. Next, we will take our notes and turn them into rough drafts. We will edit our writing and create a final draft with a bibliography, Cover, Title Page, and a Table of Contents. The final paper will be a formal research report between 5-8 paragraphs long.
Your Final report is due Feb. 11th.
I encourage you to ask questions, to talk about the assignment expectations, and to clarify any questions that you might have on our class blog.
Your job is to write a clear, coherent, and focused report on some aspect of ancient Egypt. Your writing must exhibit awareness of your audience and the purpose of your report. Your report must contain a formal introduction, supporting evidence, and a conclusion. You must also provide evidence of following the writing process taught in class. (Big 6, Outline, Research Notes, Drafts, and Class notes). You will hand in all of your work in a folder on Feb. 11th.
You may choose the subject of your report. Understand you will need to include its significance or relationship to ancient Egypt in your report. We will go to the library to browse books, so that you can decide what topic you would like to do. I will work with our Teacher Librarian to help you refine your topic using the Big 6. The Teacher Librarian will also teach you how to find credible sources. She has provided a list of credible and reliable websites and databases on the school library homepage. I have also included some excellent links to good databases and websites below. The Teacher Librarian will show the class how to use Easybib which is an online bibliography tool for you to use for this assignment. The link to Easybib is provided below. For this project, I would like you to use 5 credible sources from books, databases, and websites.
Your report should be word processed with appropriate formatting (margins, tabs, spacing, page orientation, page numbering, font size, and style).
Your research report must include the following information in this order:
1. (1 pt) Decorated Cover
2. (1pt) Title Page with your report title, your name, and the due date
3. (5 pts) Table of Contents-Must follow proper form. An example will be done in class.
4. (5 pts) Introduction-Must have a lead and a thesis statement that summarizes the main idea
5. (10 pts) Report Body-Must be divided into three subtopics. Link subtopics to the Big 6.
6. (2pts) Two Illustrations-Can be charts, pictures, maps, or downloaded images (cite sources)
7. (5 pts) Conclusion-Restate thesis statement but avoid the lead
8. (5 pts) Bibliography-5 sources (books, websites, databases), Use Easybib.
